Jim NesbittWhy Sigma Chi?—
I didn’t come to Hillsdale College with the intention or expectation of joining a fraternity, but I did come with the intention and expectation of making friendships that would be meaningful and genuine. I wanted a life at college that contained a solid group of friends who cared about and supported my life. I wanted an exciting and entertaining social environment that would not detract from the pursuit of my own individual interests and would support rather than corrupt my personal morals and beliefs. I discovered that Sigma Chi was a place where friends of this nature were made. I discovered that Sigma Chi was the only organisation that fit all of my requirements. Joining this brotherhood has been an opportunity to improve all areas of my college life, and I only regret not recognizing the merits of Sigma Chi earlier.

What has been your favorite experience with Sigma Chi?—
There have been many great experiences for me at Sigma Chi, but one of the most deeply satisfying has actually been while I was separated from the house. I studied abroad for six months and found that there were few people in my life apart from the men of Sigma Chi who were genuinely interested in keeping up with me frequently and taking the time to share our separate experiences to keep our relationships strong and to help me stay connected. I knew that I still had a place back at Hillsdale when I returned, and that it was at Alpha Kappa. I knew that my brothers genuinely cared about me, as there was nothing for them to gain by staying in touch except stronger bonds of friendship. This proved in my mind that the qualities which attracted me to Sigma Chi in the first place were even stronger than I imagined at the time I joined.
